After School Program
Programs are offered at all schools in the district from dismissal to 6:00 p.m. every day that school is in session during the year. Elementary students attending Richard Bard, Julien Hathaway, Art Haycox, Hueneme, Ansgar Larsen, Parkview, Sunkist and Fred L. Williams Schools are required to attend a minimum of 15 hours each week. Junior high students attending Charles F. Blackstock and E.O. Green Schools are required to attend a minimum of nine hours each week; 3 days a week for 3 hours each day. Per AB 130, first priority for participation is given to students who are English learners, foster youth, or students who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals . Each school also has credentialed teachers and/or para-educators to provide strategic academic interventions for students that address specific skill areas in reading and/or math. Parents interested in having their child enrolled in SHINE may contact the school principal or the site coordinator to inquire about enrolling their child in the program.
Our vision is to ensure our students experience a high-quality expanded learning day program by collaborating with our community-based partners and providing the professional learning and follow-up coaching support that is essential to having after school staff who are equipped with the belief, the knowledge and the skill set to inspire and to empower every student to thrive every day.
Our mission is to provide high-quality extended learning opportunities for all student participants. We will inspire our students to explore, dream big and develop social and civic responsibility through a whole child approach. They will thrive, as we develop leaders who use their unique talents, and persevere when faced with adversity in a safe, culturally responsive and inclusive learning community. We will empower our students by designing lessons, activities and opportunities for them to apply the 21st century skills of critical thinking, creativity and communication as they collaborate with their peers and staff.
Our purpose is to offer a safe place for our students to be in an extended learning day program that they want to attend to work with adults who serve as positive role models and mentors to children.
